Holiday Wars: Prelude is the third story in chapter 33 of Sluggy Freelance, A Seed of Knowledge. Shortly before New Years Eve, Bun-bun is contacted by 2002, who reveals that it was him that gave him the anonymous note. Asked for his motive, he flees. 2003, here by way of time travel, catches up with him angrily, telling him he put a catastrophe back on course that 2003 had tried to avert by telling Santa Claus of Bun-bun's plan. With no time left, all 2002 can do is coronate the new year 2003. The seed of knowledge 2002 planted, however, is growing into a plan in Bun-bun's mind.
